ABSTRACT:
The field of herbal medicine has seen growing study on the needs of sustainable plant-based products in the previous years. By the help of using two crude drugs, Picrorhiza kurroa and Enicostema littorale, which has anti-diabetic action for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, the present work was done to formulate a multi-herbal tablet and analysed under several physico-chemical and analytical criteria including drug excipient compatibility, pre and post-formulation study. Using a rotary punching machine with 600mg weight of each tablet with 400mg active medicament content, the six tablet formulations (F1 to F6) were made from wet grains method. The pre- and post-compression values for F1 to F6 formulations were found to be satisfactory and thereafter, in-vitro testing was carried out for these formulations. The formulations' drug release fell between 89% and 95%; F6 formulation had the greatest percentage of drug release among the others. In F6 formulation, the following values were noted: 600.4±0.04, Hardness- 4.33±0.28, Friability- 0.83±0.05, Disintegration time- 15.66±1.06, and % drug release- 95.74±1.02. Therefore, it was decided that the current research may be a great instrument for continuous care of diabetes mellitus.
