ABSTRACT:
Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic that provides effective treatment S. aureus and MRSA bacterial infections of the skin. MP exhibits effective antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria, but there are various articles proving their efficacy in the treatment of Impetigo, Folliculitis and Eczema. Objective: The primary objective of this investigation was to develop and examine a simple, precise, resilient, sensitive, and reliable UV-spectroscopic technique for detecting Mupirocin in bulk and on the market topical preparations in accordance with ICH validation requirements. Method: A UV spectrophotometric method was developed to estimate Mupirocin, the solvent system used was Methanol and Distilled water (10:90v/v), with Mupirocin showing a ?max at 221nm. Result: The technique demonstrated linearity within the range of 6 - 30µg/ml, R² value of 0.9981. The result indicated that LOD have been 0.32µg/ml and LOQ have 0.97µg/ml. The method demonstrated precision, accuracy, robustness, and specificity, with a %RSD of less than 2%. Stability studies showed that Mupirocin is unstable under acidic, alkaline, oxidative, and thermal conditions thus the need for stable formulations. Conclusion: The demonstrated method's specificity, sensitivity, accuracy, preciseness, ruggedness, and robustness succeed in effectively assessing Mupirocin in bulk and marketed formulation, which facilitates its integration in a novel carrier system for increased topical therapeutic benefits.
