ABSTRACT:
Aim: The study was to compare and evaluate the efficacy of preoperative injection of Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and Biotin-Platelet-rich plasma (B-PRP) therapy in follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant procedure. Materials and methods: This prospective study was conducted on 15 patients (30 surgical sites) presenting with androgenic alopecia. Group I consisted of 15 patients who received preoperative B-PRP therapy, and Group II comprised 15 patients who underwent PRP therapy 1 week prior to the hair transplant procedure using the FUE technique. All patients were assessed for hair density, hair follicle survival rate, and erythema at the 1st, 3rd, and 6th postoperative months. Results: The patients in group I showed statistical significance for hair density and follicle survival rate at 3rd and 6th months postoperatively (P < 0.05). The scalp erythema was comparatively minimal in group I patients, with statistical significance (P < 0.05) at week 1, respectively. Conclusion: PRP is an excellent adjuvant to hair transplant procedures in terms of hair density and survival of hair follicles. The present study demonstrates that either PRP or B-PRP can be a promising supportive regimen for stimulating hair growth and ultimately achieving better postoperative outcomes.
