ABSTRACT:
The aim of the present research work was to, “Design, development and evaluation herbal nanogel containing Achyranthes aspera.”Research on medical plants is one of the most significant areas of research worldwide. The Achyranthes aspera Linn. belong to the family Amaranthaceae were evaluated for topical application. The preparation of extract was done by using different solvent such as water, ethanol and methanol etc. the ethanolic and methanolic extracts have the potential against the fungal activity as compared to the aqueous solvent. In the pre-formulation study, the phytochemical screening were performed by using standard methods and the UV calibration of the extract, FT-IR study, melting point determination (245-2500C) Nanogels were prepared by using homogenization technique. In the formulation process the polymer’s carbopol 940 (0.5%-2%), propylene glycol (10%), Ethyl cellulose (5%), Glycerin (1%), sodium benzoate (0.02%), and distilled water was used up to 100ml, with different concentration of gelling agent five batches (F1-F5) were formulated and evaluated with different parameters to obtain optimized batch. The evaluation parameters such as viscosity (4000-4500cps), spreadability (6.4-7.cm), pH determination (6-6.7), Microscopic particle size analysis (0-40um), % drug content (87-92%) and in-vitro drug diffusion study (70-85%). Considering the result of these parameters the optimized batch was found to be batch F4.The pH of the optimized batch was 6.8, % drug content was 97.93% and the in-vitro diffusion was 84.92%. The stability study was performed as per the ICH guidelines. The particle size analysis and zeta potential of batch F4 was 194.6nm and -15.2mV. The Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was performed. Further investigation of batch F4 for the Pharmacokinetic’s reviewed for future scope.
