ABSTRACT:
These days, inflammation and pain are major health issues. One plant that may have analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties is green algae (Ulva lactuca L). Melatonin and sulfated polysaccharides found in green algae may have analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. This work aims to explore the potential analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties of water extract from green algae. The chemical stimulation approach was utilized to assess analgesic efficacy in vivo at a concentration of 1% acetic acid. There were four groups of mice. Group (K) 1 was given CMC Na 1% (10mg/ml) as a pain reliever; K2 was given Na Diclofenac 0.13mg/20g BW as a positive control; K3 was given 10.4mg/20g BW of green algae; and K4 was given 20.8mg/20g BW of green algae. The pain response was measured as the total quantity of writhing for five minutes over an hour. We looked at the anti-inflammatory qualities in vitro. Tests for anti-inflammatory activity were conducted both in vivo and in vitro. The red blood cell membrane is kept at 54°C using an induction heating method in the in vitro procedure. 2% carrageenin was utilized as an edema inducer to assess the anti-inflammatory activity in vivo. Four groups of Wistar rats were utilized as test subjects, and each group received a different treatment: group 1 received CMC Na, group 2 received 1.8mg/200gBW of diclofenac sodium, group 3 received 36mg/200 gBW of green algae, and group 4 received 72mg/200gBW of the same medication. The anti-inflammatory activity was assessed by measuring the quantity of rat paw edema at 0, 60, 120, 180, 240, and 300 minutes after an hour of carrageenin treatment. The statistical data analysis was done using SPSS. At a dose of 20.8mg/20gBW, green algae water extract demonstrates 63.70% protection percentage and analgesic efficacy. With an IC-50 of 4.2051 ±0.0797mg/mL, green algae have anti-inflammatory qualities in vitro. The anti-inflammatory potency of green algae was found to be 31.78% at 36mg/200gBW and 19.45% at 72mg/200gBW. According to our research, water extracts of green algae have been shown to have analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties.
