ABSTRACT:
Background: Periodontal disease significantly contributes to the global prevalence of oral diseases and shares similar risk factors with various chronic conditions. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently emphasized the need to enhance the management of periodontal disease on a global scale. Moreover, periodontal disease holds substantial importance in public health as it stands out as a prominent oral condition contributing significantly to the global prevalence of chronic illnesses. Case: A-68-years-old male patient visited to Periodontics Clinic Dental Hospital Airlangga University with the main complaint of tooth mobility. The patient admitted that he had received splinting treatment but it had fallen off. The patient admit that he had hypertension and diabetes mellitus, and come for a control to a specialist once a month. The patient said using insulin injections and anti-hypertension drugs. The patient admit that he had no history of allergies and did not smoke. Objective: This case report aims to explain the important role of Host Modulation Therapy (HMT) and maintenance in periodontitis patient with systemic disease. Method: Scaling and root planing was performed to eliminite debris and calculus. After treatment, the patient was prescribed doxycycline 20mg twice a day. One week afterward, splinting was done for tooth mobility. Results: After 2-3 months evaluation, there was an improvement in loss of attachment. Conclusion: Host Modulation Therapy (HMT) was the appropriate treatment for periodontitis patient with systemic disease.
