ABSTRACT:
Background and objectives: One of the most common operations in orthopedic practice nowadays is total hip arthroplasty. The objective of several research projects using diverse methodologies has been to reduce the difference in limb length between patients after total hip replacement. Most of these methods are laborious and have not been able to get rid of the difference in limb length entirely. It is imperative that strategies be developed that are simple, achievable, and effective in reducing the disparity in limb length. The purpose of this research was to assess the effectiveness of the double suture technique in preventing limb length discrepancy (LLD) after total hip replacement (THA). Materials and Methods: In order to assess the effectiveness of the Double Suture Technique for preventing limb length discrepancy, we did prospective observational research on 53 patients having primary Total Hip Arthroplasty at our institution. The data were compared with existing literature to determine the technique's usefulness. Results: The mean clinical LLD after surgery was 1.2±2.3 mm. Of the patients, 77% had no real clinical LLD after surgery, 21% had a clinical LLD of 5 mm, and 2% had an LLD of 10 mm. The radiographic LLD after surgery was 5.2±3.9 mm on average. (31 individuals had radiological LLD of less than 5 mm; 2 patients had no LLD.) Conclusion: In summary, the double suture approach used in this research has shown efficacy, validity, affordability, ease of application, and reliability in reducing lower limb loss.
