ABSTRACT:
To date, cancer remains as a burdensome disease in Indonesia. Therapies for cancer patients require long periods of time, with the likelihood of the patients experiencing post-chemotherapy side effects and may affect the patients’ quality of life. The aim of this research was to descriptively compare the quality of life of cancer patients using the Indonesian version of the 5-level EuroQoL-5 Dimension (EQ-5D-5L) and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer QLQ-C30 (EORTC QLQ-C30). This research was conducted using a cross-sectional research design at a hospital in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from July to August 2022. The inclusion criterion was adult cancer patients undergoing a chemotherapy at the hospital during the research period. Meanwhile, the exclusion criterion was patients unwilling to participate in the research. The questionnaires used in this research were the EQ-5D-5L and the EORTC QLQ-C30. As many as 101 subjects with a mean utility score of 0.63 and a visual analogue scale (VAS) score of 75.33 based on the EQ-5D-5L were involved. Approximately 10%–20% of the subjects expressed having problems in all functions on the EQ-5D-5L. Based on the EORTC QLQ-C30, all functions scored between 80% and 91%, with the global health score being very low (26.90%). Based on the results, there was a convergence in worsening functions and symptoms experienced by cancer patients in this research. Pain and depressive symptoms require special attention from healthcare service providers in order for patients’ overall quality of life to increase.
