ABSTRACT:
Background: Prediabetes phase indicates that a person is on the path to diabetes. In today’s life, prevalence of prediabetes is more than diabetes and rate of prediabetes getting converted into diabetes is also increasing. As rate of conversion from prediabetes to diabetic is more so it is important to reduce this rate of conversion. Material and methods: Exhaustive literature review has been carried out for the selection of relevant medicine for treatment of prediabetes. Mehamudgar Vatika has been selected for study against prediabetes as mentioned in Bhaishajya Ratnavali. Controlled clinical trial was used for the study. Ancient scholars of Ayurved have mentioned that it is effective in all sadhya-asadhaya Prameha. Result: The ingredients of Mehamudgar Vatika are having tikta-katu-kashaya rasa, ushna veerya, katuvipak and deepen pachan properties which rectify the Kleda predominance in prediabetes. Conclusion: Mehamudgar vati is effective in lowering the Kapha and Kleda as well as lowering the blood sugar level in prediabetic patients.
