ABSTRACT:
Searching for an ideal radioprotector is one of the crucial areas of research. Several radioprotectors of synthetic origin have been tested to be effective in radioprotection. The major problem with synthetic radioprotectors is their toxicity at higher concentrations. Tender coconut water (TCW) is well known for its antioxidant properties in vitro and in vivo. However, no in vivo study has been done to evaluate its efficacy in reducing genotoxicity. Thus present study aims to shed some light on the same by providing experimental facts. The study objective is to evaluate the radioprotective efficacy of the (TCW) by evaluating the genotoxicity and inflammatory markers. The Genotoxicity and Cytotoxicity were assessed using Comet assay, and Micronucleus assay and inflammatory markers like ALP, SGOT and SGPT were evaluated using standard protocols. The results suggest that post-intervention of TCW is beneficial when exposed to radiation which is confirmed by the significant decrease in the DNA damage and inflammatory markers.
