ABSTRACT:
Osteoarthritis may be perhaps the oldest of all known diseases. It is observed that around 33–70 % of people aged over 65 yrs. show radiographic evidence of Osteoarthritis. The prevalence rate of OA increases day by day because of diet and lifestyle. There are many measures available now in combating OA. The main objective of this paper is to collect and evaluate the evidence about naturally available methods in the management of OA. Empirical cross-sectional study method is used to know the pain management of OA using natural means. The review found suggestive of evidence on various complementary and alternative therapies like Ayurveda, naturopathy, hirudotherapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy etc. are possibly useful in the treatment of osteoarthritis. In conclusion, further studies are to be carried out to make these alternative management therapies a clinically significant one, and evidence-based.
