ABSTRACT:
The glucocorticoids (GCs) have been used in clinical practice for more than half a century. In 1950, Hench and Kendall along with Tadeusz Reichstein were awarded the Nobel Prize for “for their discoveries relating to the hormones of the adrenal cortex, their structure and biological effects.” The high efficiency of GCs is out of question, but possible unwanted side effects have often become the reasons for discussions. This article deals with a survey of conclusions, based on results obtained by the European League Against Rheumatism — EULAR. This group consists of patients and medical experts, who have analyzed huge amounts of literature. It became clear that together with the delivery of therapy, duration and dosage of GCs, the valuable role in the evaluation of the adverse effects development reveal specific factors peculiar to every patient. The positive evaluation of expectation effects to anticipated risk correlation may be achieved during performance of long-lasting GCs-therapy, with respect to actual knowledge and recommendations, and its correct usages in practice.
