ABSTRACT:
Introduction: Generally the epicardial coronary arteries runs in the atrioventricular grooves but sometimes part of myocardium grows over the epicardial coronary arteries called as myocardial bridge. It is considered as common anatomical variant or congenital anomaly. With the above background the present study has been undertaken to study the incidence of MB over the coronary arteries and their branches. Material and Methods: As this is a cadaveric study 100 heart specimens were obtained from routine dissection conducted for undergradu¬ate students in the department of Anatomy IMS and SUM Hospital Bhubaneswar. After simple dissecting procedure epicardial coronary arteries, their branches and myocardial bridges were observed. Results: In the present study out of 100 formalin fixed hearts 41 hearts were identified with myocardial bridges present over Left anterior descending artery (LAD) only.Among 41 hearts single myocardial bridge present in 37 hearts, double myocardial bridge were present in 3 hearts and triple myocardial bridges present in single heart. Conclusion: This study concudes that myocardial bridges are mainly present over the LAD and presence of double and triple myocardial bridges over the LAD is a unique feature in the present study.
