ABSTRACT:
Laban (Vitex pinnata) is one of the plants found at the Seulawah’s geothermic area, namely ie seu um, which has been widely used as traditional medicine by the Acehnese. Laban contains alkaloids, steroids, terpenoids, saponins, flavonoids, and phenolics/tannins. In this study, the anti-bacterial activity of the methanol extract against Streptococcus mutans was evaluated. Microdilution was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). The MIC result of methanol extract was found to be -1.48 CFU/ml colonies, at concentration of 0.05%. Meanwhile the MBC result of methanol extract at concentration of 50% no colonies was grows. Based on the results, it can be concluded that methanol extract has a high inhibition activity with 0.05% KHM and 50% KBM concentrations.
