ABSTRACT:
Electrochemotherapy is a therapeutic modality that combines the effect of electroporation with chemotherapy. It is currently being used for the clinical management of cutaneous and subcutaneous tumors, skin metastasis of head and neck neoplasms, basal and merkal cell carcinoma, kaposi’s sarcoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia infiltration, and melanoma metastasis. Although, many different anti-neoplastic agents had been tested for electrochemotherapy, only bleomycin and cisplatin had been found be suitable for clinical practice. In head and neck region, it is suitable for curative therapy of small nodules and palliative treatment of advanced stage tumours. This article is a comprehensive review of electrochemotherapy with special emphasis on it’s usefulness in head and neck malignancies.
