ABSTRACT:
In textile, plastic and other many industries dyes are widely used and which are chemical and color compounds. If dyes (effluents) are released into the environment without any proper treatment causes very harmful effects to the ecosystem. The present paper contains the removal of Indigo carmine dye from the effluent. Removal of dyes from effluent occurs by either biological methods or physicochemical methods (adsorption, oxidation-reduction, chemical coagulation, ozone treatment, and membrane filtration). A mixture coconut shell and rice husk in a powdered form is used for the removal of Indigo carmine dye from industrial wastewater with low cost. The percentage removal of dye was studied as function of various operating parameters such as contact time, initial concentration, adsorbent dose and particle size. The parameters affecting kinetics and equilibrium of adsorption onto adsorbent was studied, Detailed data analysis indicated that the adsorption of dye followed Freundlich isotherm and Langmuir isotherm. The adsorption process follows pseudo-first order rate kinetics.
