ABSTRACT:
Several recent studies have focused on health related quality of life. Nutrition and diet quality could influence on health outcomes and quality of life. However, most investigation in this field have studied one single nutrients or food. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between quality of diet and quality of life among healthy nurses in Ahvaz, southwest Iran.. This cross-sectional study was carried out on 123 healthy nurses in 2015. Diet quality was evaluated by Healthy Eating Index (HEI 2010) and Quality of life (QOL) was assessed by the standardized Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) questionnaire. The mean score of total HEI-2010 score was 59.59 ± 6.62. Lowest score of HEI component was for refined grain (0.15 ± 0.56). Total score of SF-36 was 67.96 ± 16.43 that for physical component summary (PCS) and mental component summary (MCS) were 70.25 ± 17.62 and 65.68 ± 19.34, respectively. The HEI total scores were positively correlated with the SF-36 total score and PCS (p<0.05). Also sodium had strong correlation with SF-36 and its subscales (p<0.05). The relationship between HEI-2010 and quality of life among healthy nurses was supported in this study. Moreover, it seems that participants need to improve their diet quality especially in refine and whole grain part. More investigations with larger sample size and in other population are suggested in future studies.
