ABSTRACT:
Bee pollen is a wonderful supplement for natural allergy relief and is responsible for many health benefits of raw honey. This review summarizes the potential protective effects of bee pollen against toxicity induced by various drugs. Bee pollen is composed of varying proportions of carbohydrates, proteins, crude fiber, lipids, minerals, trace elements, vitamins, carotenoids, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, sterols and terpenes depending upon the source of pollen and has radio-protective potential, anti-chemo toxicity potential, nutrition potential, anti-allergic potential, hepatoprotective potential, anti-mutagenic potential, antioxidant potential, genotoxicity modulator, anti-neurotoxicity activity, antibacterial activity and haemopoietic potential. The whole review revealed that bee pollen is an important apitherapeutic due to its potential medical and nutritional applications.
