ABSTRACT:
The presence of Radon and Uranium in any material is an important indicator especially for dangerous hair dyes. Since hair dyes are widely used and there are no database found for radiation concentrations on it. The research is concerned with the concentration of radon and uranium in 20 samples of hair colors that are available in the Iraqi markets. Radon and uranium concentrations are measured by nuclear track detector LR-115 Type-II. The results show that the concentration of radon in samples under study ranged between (40.39±0.98)Bq/m3 to (182.80±16.09) Bq/m3with an average of (111.57±8.95) Bq/m3. Regarding the Uranium concentration, it was found to range between (8.71±0.21) ppm to (33.12±2.09) ppm with an average of (21.26±1.46) ppm. In addition, the present results showed that there is a strong correlation (correlation coefficient= 0.805) between Radon and Uranium concentrations. Most Radon and Uranium concentrations in hair dye samples were lower than the maximum permissible levels recommended by the previous studies.
