ABSTRACT:
The cytokines have a major role in the inflammatory reaction that occurs with the destruction of the supporting apparatus of the periodontium. One of the most potent pro-inflammatory cytokine is interleukin 1. The current review highlights the role of the levels of interleukin 1 in serum of patients with chronic periodontitis and its potential role in the pathogenesis of periodontitis.
