ABSTRACT:
Probiotics are live microorganisms that are believed to provide health benefits when consumed in adequate amounts. Commonly claimed benefits of probiotics include decrease of potentially pathogenic gastro-intestinal microorganisms, improvement of the bowel regularity, reduction of flatulence and bloating, protection of DNA, the protection of lipids and proteins from oxidative damage, and maintenance of individual intestinal microbiota in those consuming antibiotics. Yogurt, Soy milk, fermented tea, dark chocolates, pickles, olives are some of the food items which are rich in probiotics. Here in this article, various health benefits associated with probiotics has been reviewed.
