ABSTRACT:
Aim: To assess the efficient usage of ultrasonic scalers and tips among the undergraduate dental students. Objective : To assess the knowledge and efficiency of usage of ultrasonic scalers among undergraduate dental students. Background : Ultrasonic scalers are used to remove calculus rapidly from the tooth surface. There are three main types of ultrasonic scalers. They are piezoelectric, magnetostrictive and vector. Out of these piezoelectric type of scalers are most commonly used. It vibrates strictly in linear direction. Hence the efficiency is maximum along the lateral surface of the tips of the scaler. If scaling is done with the tip surface of the ultrasonic scaler , it damages the tip surface of the ultrasonic scaler and the enamel of the tooth. Reason : This study helps to assess and check the efficiency of usage of ultrasonic scalers which help in preventing the damage to enamel of tooth.
