ABSTRACT:
AIM: The pterion is a very important landmark. It is being increasingly used by neurosurgeons to conduct keyhole surgeries. This study is being conducted to study pterion from the morphometric point of view.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the location of pterion.
BACKGROUND: The pterion is a H shaped suture which marks the confluence of the sphenoidal, parietal, temporal and frontal bones. It is seen on the lateral aspect of the skull. The pterion can be classified into four types : sphenoparietal, frontotemporal, stellate and temporal.
REASON: The pterion is a vulnerable point and is prone to fractures. When such a fracture occurs the underlying deep structures are also affected. This study will be helpful in such a scenario.
