ABSTRACT:
Obesity is a factor that is common in the present days. BMI (body mass index) is the factor that is used to find if person is overweight or obese. The correct BMI is between 18.5-25, more than 25 is overweight and more than 30 is obese. Leptin and ghrelin are the hormones, which are responsible for obesity. Leptin acts as a hormone that modulates the size of the adipose tissues in the body. It regulates food intake and body weight. It also acts on specific receptors in the hypothalamus to inhibit appetite through both counteractive and stimulatory mechanisms. Ghrelin regulates hunger and it also plays an important role in regulating the distribution and rate of use of energy.
Obesity is a major disadvantage because it lowers your self confidence, inability to work and also due to the increased risk factors. Some are coronary heart disease, cancer, hypertension, stroke, liver and gall bladder disease, sleep apnea and breathing problems, osteoarthritis and Gynaecological problems. Thus prevention is very important and the existing cases can be treated with several methods.
