ABSTRACT:
The extracts and fractions of ethanol extract of Cicer arietinum Linn. pod wall (Fabaceae) were screened for anti-inflammatory activity. The dried powdered drug was successively extracted with petroleum ether and ethanol. Ethanol extract was further fractionated using benzene, ethyl acetate and methanol. Aqueous extract was prepared by decoction. Phytochemical study of extracts and fractions were done. All this extracts and fractions showed HRBC membrane stabilization activity, which was then compared with diclofenac sodium. The prevention of hypotonicity induced HRBC membrane lysis was taken as measure of anti-inflammatory activity.
