Study on Breast Phantom Modeling using MRI DICOM Images

ABSTRACT:
Background/Objectives: This study proposes athree-dimensional (3D)modeling method using radiation DICOM(Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) images to separately display adipose tissue and parenchyma. Methods/Statistical analysis: MRI DICOM volume data that underwent a 0.1 mm volume scan were edited using the Terarecon(USA) 3D program to generate an STL conversion file, after which a Polyjet 3D printer was used for production. Findings: Using the photopolymer of the Polyjet, breast tissue was formed using 3D printing. The fat tissue was made transparent, while the actual tissue was colored and set as a separate structure. This was performed to determine whether actual tissue was included in the imaging and to ensure proper posture. Improvements/Applications: The limitation of this study was that the muscular tissue had toalso be separated and should have had asoft texture like silicon. This will be applied in future studies.
